MedApp S.A. in collaboration with Microsoft are extending the functionality of the CarnaLife System platform by making Microsoft Teams available to patients and medical staff

MedApp, the creator of the proprietary CarnaLife System platform for remote diagnosis and monitoring of patients’ health, has expanded cooperation with its existing partner, Microsoft. Access to Microsoft Teams gives patients and physicians using CarnaLife System another convenient and simple tool to communicate during medical consultations.

With the implementation of Microsoft Teams into CarnaLife System at the beginning of June this year, users of the System gain an easy and widely known tool for secure patient-doctor communication necessary in the process of remote consultations. Features of the implemented Microsoft Teams, such as: making an appointment in an electronic calendar, chat, video calls or secure data transfer will provide comfort and safety of remote consultations carried out via the System. A key strength of Microsoft Teams is meeting extended security and compliance requirements for healthcare. Microsoft Teams, a cloud-based Microsoft 365 platform, is compliant with HIPAA ( Health Information Privacy and Portability Act), and supports standards such as Health Information Trust Alliance (HITRUST), Service Organization Controls (SOC) 1 and 2, and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) – essential for maintaining high standards of security when handling sensitive patient data.

CarnaLife System is a proprietary, advanced digital medicine platform that allows the physician to diagnose and remotely monitor patients’ health and, if necessary, perform consultations at a time convenient for the patient and the physician. The application provides unique opportunities to link medical consultations with in-depth diagnostics by using artificial intelligence algorithms and Big Data analytics. Remote monitoring of the patient’s health is carried out using more than 20 devices such as a pulse oximeter, electrocardiograph (ECG), blood pressure monitor, thermometer, scale and stethoscope for auscultation.

With the integration of Microsoft Teams, users of the CarnaLife System platform gain the ability to schedule consultations within the app and add a patient appointment to the doctor’s calendar. The consultation can be carried out in both chat and video format. If there is a need to reschedule a consultation, the date change is automatically saved to the Microsoft Teams calendar as well as in the application. It is just as easy to cancel a consultation. The developers have made sure that the settings are fully synchronized. An important new feature is the guarantee of fully secure transmission of sensitive medical data in the form of attached files.

“Efficient, time-saving digital medicine solutions for patients and physicians are beneficial whether we are working under normal conditions or during the pandemic restrictions we have experienced in diagnostics and “traditional” patient health monitoring. The expansion of CarnaLife System to include Microsoft Teams, a service recognized with the Best in KLAS award for providers improving patient care, will increase patient comfort and awareness of easy and secure access to medical consultations. A particularly important aspect of this cooperation is the guarantee of high standards pertaining to safe transfer and storage of sensitive medical data, to which we are obliged, among other things, by the requirements of the GDPR. This is the next phase of our partnership with Microsoft. Cooperation with a global player such as Microsoft brings us a lot of satisfaction, especially since modern digital medicine is one of the fastest growing technology areas in the world, which is perfectly in line with the strategy pursued by MedApp,” says Krzysztof Mędrala, CEO of MedApp S.A.

MedApp and Microsoft have been cooperating since 2017. At the beginning of 2021, the Company received Mixed Reality DMP status from the technology giant, through which it became an official distributor of the mixed reality holographic visualization device – HoloLens 2. MedApp also has the status of a Silver Partner in the Mixed Reality Partner Program (MRPP), and offers Microsoft Azure cloud solution to its customers.

“Concern for the security of patients and their data is fundamental, especially as we see the rise of digital medicine and remote consultations. The second important factor is the usability of the technologies and their accessibility to all. When announcing our investment in the development of the Polish Digital Valley and the construction of a local data center in May 2020, we also made another declaration to ensure the highest standards of information security of our clients and their users, which in this case are their patients. At the same time, I am very excited about the next phase of our partnership with MedApp. The company is developing dynamically, setting the direction for the implementation of innovations in the healthcare sector,” says Paweł Jakubik, Cloud based Digital Transformation Lead and member of the Management Board at Microsoft
